"Delzhand"

What is "Delzhand"?

It's my name, in some fashion. In the high tech world we live in, everyone is connected. Getting an email address with your name is nearly impossible anymore unless you have a relatively exotic name. When faced with this conundrum registering for my first semester at ISU, I needed something that would never be taken by anyone else. I had long passed the age at which I found names like silversword or gamer-x acceptable pseudonyms. I chose Delzhand as my email address because, at the time, I was working on Ardor. One of Ardor's heroes is named Cainas Delzhand. I'm not sure why I chose Delzhand over any of the other names, but it may have had something to do with the fact that it didn't mean anything. It was a nonsense word (name), guaranteed to be available in any context, including a domain name. It meant nothing to anyone else, but Delzhand represented years worth of thought towards my dream game, long before I ever had the notion that I was skilled enough to actually design games for a living.

Between my first semester and the writing of this article, Delzhand grew into an empire. I had the forum mods at Penny Arcade change my old Keiru Silver to Delzhand. I registered delzhand as a gmail address. It became my general purpose label whenever I wanted to make sure that something was truly unique to me, such as a username or website.

The title of this website is Delzhand.com - it didn't take much thinking, I always knew I'd own the domain some day. I wanted to make the job of potential employers as easy as possible. Let's google his email address and see what comes up, they'll say, and with any luck, Google will return this page and suggest that maybe they misspelled "dalchand".
